The radiative transfer through an astronomical region populated by stochastic clumps is studied by means of functional analytical techniques. Random density fluctuations of the background medium are described by a finite number of parameters. In the framework, each realization of the statistics corresponds to a possible configuration of a real clumpy region, as it is possible to infer from observations.
