The study of radiative phenomena are relevant from several points of view in astrophysics (accreting stars, supernovae, supernovae remnants, ..). Also high power lasers such as LIL, LMJ or NIF will produce plasmas with hydrodynamic flows dominated by radiation. In these cases, it is necessary to consider in the hydrodynamic equations not only radiation flux but also radiation pressure and energy [1]. We present a laser experiment, performed at LULI, where the physical parameters have been chosen in order to reproduce radiative shock conditions. The targets were made of a small cell (1 mm3) filled with Xenon at low pressure (< 1 atm). On the laser side, we had a multi-layer pusher optimized for reaching conditions where the launched shock in Xe is radiative. Rear side and traverse diagnostics allowed to determine shock and precursor velocities, electron density and temperature along the shock propagation. A radiative precursor with a velocity more than twice the shock velocity has been observed [2,3]. Comparisons with numerical simulations and models will be presented. References [1] S. Bouquet, R.
