Chromium: Transition Probabilities

Scientific paper

Comprehensive sets of accurate absolute transition probabilities are increasingly important in spectral synthesis and other astrophysical data analysis. Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) is recognized as an accurate and broadly applicable method of determining lifetimes. The authors present measurements of radiative lifetimes for 131 levels in Cr I, mostly odd-parity. Efforts to reduce systematic errors are discussed. These measurements will be combined with branching fractions obtained by Fourier transform spectroscopy to determine an extensive set of transition probabilities for Cr I.
