The formation of resonance-multiplet lines with a common upper level in a semi-infinite medium is analyzed. An analytical method developed for two-level atoms is used, a Boltzmann distribution of the atomic population in lower-level sublevels is assumed along with full frequency redistribution within each line, and emission-line intensity is expressed in terms of Boltzmann's H-function. Asymptotic and approximate formulas for the H-function are obtained for Doppler as well as Voight absorption coefficients. The Doppler H-function is computed, and the accuracy of the asymptotic solution is evaluated, for the case of the solar O I resonance triplet.
