The emergent flux for radiation transfer in an inhomogeneous half-space with internal source is obtained in terms of the source function of the diffuse reflection problem. The relation between the two problems is given, and the emergent flux of the diffuse problem is calculated using the modified Eddington approximation. Numerical results for the homogeneous medium are obtained and compared with the exact results of Horak (1952, 1954). The results for the inhomogeneous medium are presented together with those obtained by the F(N)-method (Siewert and Garcia, 1981).
