Analytical results are presented for electromagnetic scattering in a stellar atmosphere. The solution is obtained in the Eddington approximation under the assumption that the photon-escape probability decreases exponentially with optical depth. Expressions are obtained for radiation fluxes escaping the atmosphere under the assumption that the Planck radiation function varies linearly with optical depth. The accuracy of the Eddington approximation is examined.
