Pulsars: General - Radiation Mechanisms: Nonthermal
Scientific paper
This paper represents an elaborated version of relativistic magnetized star model proposed recently by Belinsky & Ruffini (1992). Here an exact analytical solution for the electromagnetic field generated by a magnetic dipole rotating with arbitrarily high speed is determined. For the radiation part of the field we recover the classical result of Deutsch in the low speed limit. As the magnetic poles approach the speed of light, i.e. in the fully relativistic regime, the radiation diverges going as γ4. In general our solution clearly evidences the existence of a magnetic analogue of the synchrotron radiation. Numerical results for the total radiation intensity and for the spectrum of the radiation are shown. We expect that our approach is relevant to the physics of millisecond pulsars.
