The dwarf cepheid SZ Lyn was observed on 27-28 November 1979 and March 1980 with the CORAVEL photoelectric spectrometer. The high time resolution radial velocity curves covering several cycles are satisfactorily represented by a four harmonic Fourier development, with a total variation of 39.9 km s-1. No significant amplitude variation can be detected from cycle to cycle. The available mean radial velocities lead to a coherent provisional orbit which confirms the binary hypothesis, the computed eccentricity (≃0.26) being fairly large. The stellar atmosphere's displacement is found to be about 0.115 Rsun (80,000 km) - i. e., 4.1% of the star's mean radius - assuming this radius to be 2.8 Rsun. The computed atmospheric acceleration suggests that the free-fall atmosphere hypothesis near the point of maximum radius is not satisfactory. Many observations are still required to obtain an accurate orbit which will account for the phases of the light and radial velocity curves, and will permit to compute the star radius.
