Scientific paper

A project to develop a line-integral approach to two-dimensional radarclinometry and to bring it to the status of producing topographic maps from real radar images is presented. Details of the methodology are discussed along with the specific areas where observations were taken. It is concluded that photoclinometry will never be as accurate as stereophotoclinometry, but is (by comparison) economical, rapid, and, when multiscopic paralactic images are not available, the only source of topographic information. The present technique is able to retrieve useful topographic information from even poor images. Furthermore, in future applications of photogrammetry, even when it is operating at the peak of its potential, photoclinometry will be utilized to provide the highest spatial frequencies in a topographic map.
