New photometric data (since 1972) on RCB type stars and their puzzling behavior are reviewed. IR and UV spectral data and results of systematic polarimetric observations of RCB type stars at light-minimum are surveyed. RCB pulsations, small-scale light fluctuations, redshift, multicolor photometry and spectrophotometry in Ir and UV are reviewed. A model is proposed to account for these data and expulsion of spherical-symmetric shells from the outer regions of RCB type stars. Exchange of mass between the stars (via eruption of gas-dust envelopes) and the interstellar medium is considered of importance in relation to condensation of interstellar matter, formation of new stars, and formation of stellar clusters.
