Multifrequency observations of the quiescent radio emission of UX Arietis performed with the 100-m radio telescope of Effelsberg are reported. The derived spectral index implies that besides the flaring emission, also the quiescent one is due to electrons with a power-law energy distribution. A lower limit estimate of the lifetime of the quiescent emission imposes the following constraints on magnetic field and thermal electron density: B not greater than 30 G, Ne less than 4 x 10 exp 7/cu cm. The present data are insufficient to distinguish if the emitting electrons are produced during a flare or if a continuous injection of particles must be invoked.
