The purpose of this article is to describe an astrometry technique developed by the authors as part of a self-sponsored sky patrol programme known as "Project Sky Scan". Since the technique simply entails the integration of an inexpensive microcomputer (or programmable calculator) and a precisison linear micrometer with photographic equipment already available to many amateur astronomers, it is expecially easy to implement. If 125×175-millimetre (or larger) negatives, positives or prints are utilized, the resultant comet, asteroid or nova co-ordinates are usually accurate enough for reporting to the IAU.
