Questions are raised concerning a number of qualms felt by the authors and others over some of the results of the theories of special and general relativity. Past queries and objections are reviewed briefly before some modern work, which is critical of the commonly accepted theory but offers an alternative solution for the problems addressed, is aired. As far as applications of the theory are concerned, attention is drawn to errors in the theory of the thermodynamics of black holes and also in the inflationary scenario.
