The quasi-static Stark (QSS) broadening of the emission lines of hydrogen and hydrogenlike ions in (astrophysical or laboratory) plasmas is investigated theoretically. The results of QSS profile computations are presented in tables and graphs and characterized in detail. The half-widths of Hn-alpha and Hn-gamma profiles calculated by conventional approximate methods are found to be only 12 and 17 percent, respectively, of the QSS values for principal quantum numbers n much greater than one.
