A special type of solar preflare equilibria, the newly-emerging-Flux model, is considered. This model describes the quasistatic evolution occurring before the onset of a solar eruptive process (e.g., flare) as the formation of a new magnetic structure within an otherwise stationary equilibrium. The model is analyzed quantitatively in the framework of two-dimensional magnetohydrostatic theory. It is shown that the equilibrium ceases to exist when the newly emerging flux exceeds a critical field strength; this point is regarded as the onset of an eruptive process. The equilibrium and the onset criterion are discussed quantitatively.
