In July 1984 and Sept. 1985, 784 type II bursts from the Rapid Burster were detected with Exosat, ranging in duration from under 2 s to 27 s. Quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs with frequencies of 5-7 Hz were observed but only in bursts with durations of 9-19 s. It is concluded that QPOs have been detected in type II bursts of all durations in excess of 9 s. It is also found that the occurrence of QPOs does not depend on the burst peak flux; when QPOs are observed, they do not necessarily occur in all bursts; and the centroid frequency of the QPOs is dependent on the burst peak flux.
