Evidence for the multiple production of Ipdp bursts is reviewed, and it is proposed that another mechanism besides that of repeated injections of energetic protons may be at work, namely, the drift of injected protons around the earth. The dispersion of a cloud of protons implies pitch-angle diffusion, which should lead to loss of energy of the particles and decrease in burst intensity. Observations of such a decrease in burst intensity tend to support the drift hypothesis.-
