The solar wind magnetic field has been observed continuously from 19 February 1985 by a triaxial ring-core magnetometer on board Sakigake. As expected from the two-hemisphere model, the tilt angle of the heliospheric neutral sheet has decreased gradually during the transition from excursion phase to aligned phase. Near the encounter of Sakigake with comet Halley (10 - 12 March 1986), the magnetometer detected clear multiple crossings of the nearly horizontal heliospheric neutral sheet. Although comet Halley was to cross the same neutral sheet about for hours later, there was no apparent disconnection event (DE) in its ion tail during 11 - 12 March. The observed sheet-tail interaction is explained by a quasi-parallel model so that the ion tail does not always show a DE when a comet crosses the heliospheric neutral sheet that is nearly parallel to the tail axis.
