The analysis of the distribution of the distances between the systems of absorption lines in quasar spectra and comparison of this distribution with the distribution of the distances between superclusters in deep optical surveys suggest that the systems of absorption lines are connected with superclusters of galaxies. The comparison of the absorbing gas parameters with the data for coronae of the Galaxy and of the Magellanic Clouds confirms this connection and permits to revise conclusions of the theory on the properties of superclusters. The problem of unidentified absorption lines in quasar spectra is discussed.
