Effects of vacuum polarization, particle production, and particle interaction with a self-consistent gravitational field in an anisotropic Bianchi I universe are analyzed. An asymptotic expansion is obtained for the scalar propagator, radiational corrections are calculated in a logarithmic approximation, and the energy-momentum tensor of real particles is computed on the assumption of LTE. All results are presented in four-dimensional covariant form. The Einstein equations are written with allowance for the investigated quantum gravitational effects and used to examine the cosmological evolution of the anisotropic universe. It is found that quantum gravitational effects alter the nature of the cosmological singularity in such a way that the divergences of all physical quantities at the singularity are entirely due to conformal factors. The effect of particle production is shown to ensure isotropization of the expanding universe over Planck times regardless of the initial conditions prescribed in the contraction stage. A specific relationship is established between the parameters characterizing geometry and matter in the expanding universe.
