In recent years, some interesting new possibilities have arisen, in which a proper understanding of quantum phenomena in strong gravitational fields might produce important advances in theory, and even lead to observational consequences. The long-term objective to construct a full, consistent theory of quantum gravity remains, however, as elusive as ever. An approach which is known as quantum field theory in curved space-time is considered. Attention is given to theoretical problems, the stress tensor, cosmology, and black holes.
