A possible quantization of the mass of a black hole in accordance with M
approximately M(p) sq rt(n) in the string theory is discussed. This
quantization is based on the condition for a consistent description of
the motion of a test string in the external field of a black hole. A
possible link with the Hawking effect is examined.
