The project was initiated to assimilate and correlate various astrogeophysical measurements to allow the forecasting of solar activity (particularly increased activity). The launch of SKYLAB provided access to a new data base, solar extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) imagery, for potential enhancement of predictive capability. Described in detail are the operating parameters and data processing techniques employed by NASA in generating the XUV imagery. The program encountered and techniques developed to quantize the imagery for potential use in predicting solar activity are detailed. Recommendations are made as to ways in which the use of this data may be improved for further studies.
