A quantitative model of the magnetic field in the ring current region of the earth's magnetosphere has been developed. The magnetic field is derived from a series of poloidal terms, using the scalar Delta B contours of Sugiura and Poros (1973). The magnetic field is described with only two external terms in the zero-tilt case. Diurnal and seasonal effects are described with an additional term. Analytic expressions are obtained for the current density. The contour plots of the azimuthal component of the ring current are in topological agreement with results from self-consistent models.
