The two-point correlation function of line positions is a relatively weak sensor of QSO absorption line clustering. The distribution of redshift intervals between successive lines is more efficient, particularly when the line sample is small. A model simulating the current observations of QSO absorption line systems is presented. In this model, the clouds are grouped into cloud aggregates that are randomly distributed along the line-of-sight with a mean velocity separation of 600 km/s at z of about 3. The velocity dispersion within a cloud aggregate is on the same order. The older low-resolution observations detect on average less than one cloud per aggregate, while the higher resolution observations are detecting over three clouds per aggregate.
