Red shifts between 2.5 and 3.1 have been measured for nine optically
selected quasars, none of them known to be radio sources. Several
accessible quasars from Smith's list have been chosen as a starting
point to see if they might not be radio sources. It is found that
Q0000-398 is a quasar of high red shift and large angular size.
