In an analysis of single-pulse data from both the main pulse and the interpulse of PSR 1822-09, the subpulse properties are exploited to test ideas concerning the site of the radio emission in the pulsar magnetosphere. Main pulse and interpulse profiles for selected subpulses at the leading and trailing edges of the main pulse window are shown, together with the main pulse and interpulse profiles for the Q and B modes. It is found that the inter-pulse appears to participate in the mode-change, but not in a manner which conforms simply with any current model for pulsar emission.
