A study of the pulsations of the intermediate-mass metal-rich stars on the asymptotic giant branch were carried out by computing both their evolution and oscillations. Based on the numerical results of the first three linear nonadiabatic radial pulsation modes, the first overtone was the most possible pulsation mode for AGB long period variables (LPVs). The pulsations were excited at H+ and He++ ionization zone by the interaction of gas and radiation field. Very long period AGB LPVs can only be evolved by the intermediate mass stars. A great mass loss rate, which may relate to pulsation, is needed at the top AGB phase.
