The role of pulsations on the rate of dust condensation and associated
mass loss in red giants is discussed. Pulsations result in an increase
of the atmospheric scale height which can enhance mass loss by several
orders of magnitude. We stress that such effects should be included in
attempts to model this mass loss mechanism.
