Pulsationally excited winds are usually invoked to explain the high
mass-loss rates from AGB stars. We present semi-empirical formulae to
model the mass-loss rates in different parts of the HRD and then
apply these to study the effect of superwinds on the internal structure
of the stars and on the evolution towards the white-dwarf phase.
