We present results of the kinematics of the pulsar population using Monte Carlo simulations and a revised (and corrected) form of the Lyne and Lorimer birth velocity distribution. We discuss how the initial birth properties are constrained by observations. As a corollary we explore the hypothesis that the isolated millisecond pulsar population is a subset of the "regular" population whose members lie on the low end tail of the magnetic field distribution.
