The external magnetic field structure of a rapidly rotating magnetized star was studied. The interaction of the plasma with the magnetic field was included in the analysis. Several different models were considered toward the development of a final model. A detailed examination of the final model led to the conclusion that the frozen-in-flux approximation must be violated in the non-asymptotic region. As a consequence, a completely charge-separated plasma was found to be an impossibility. An expression for the energy flux was derived that depends upon the mass flux and the asymptotic particle velocity. In the relativistic that applies to pulsars, this expression becomes independent of the mass loss, and the total energy loss rate and the torque on the star can be found for the case of the aligned magnetic field. Calculations for NP 0532 were shown to agree with the observed values.
