We present ISO-LWS continuum observations of IRAS16293-2422, a Class 0 object with no evidence for an embedded disk component, and of IC1396N, a Class I object which does require a disk to fit the spectral energy distribution (SED). We combined these observations with IRAS and JCMT data in order to construct complete SEDs. A spherical envelope+disk model was used to fit the SEDs and to characterize the circumstellar matter around the objects. We also used IRAS16293-2422 as an example to investigate the role of several model parameters, the uniqueness of the fit and the constrains that can be placed on the envelope parameters. The results presented here are part of a larger study of which the main aim is to characterize the evolutionary status of a large sample of objects representing a wide range of protostellar stages.
