Cross-sections and excitation rates are computed for the excitation by proton impact of the 3P(J) fine structure transitions in the ground configuration 2p(2) of the following ions: N II, O III, Ne V, Na VI, Mg VII. Proton excitation cross sections are calculated by the complementary use of a quantum method and a semiclassical method. Excitation rates have been calculated for a wide range of temperature.
