The application of an acousto-optical spectrum analyzer to radio astronomy and its development in recent years are described. Furthermore, the principle of the acousto-optical spectrum analyzer (IAOSA) is introduced and the scheme of an IAOSA with the bandwidth of 100 MHz and resolution of 2 MHz is discussed in detail. Finally, the potential application of the IAOSA for radio astronomy is predicted.
