The Spitzer-COSMOS survey (S-COSMOS) is a Legacy program (Cycles 2+3) designed to carry out a uniform deep survey of the full 2-deg2 COSMOS field in all seven IRAC + MIPS bands. We present the first results of a study of the morphology and optical spectral line diagnostic properties for a large sample of 24 micron selected luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) from our Cycle 2 MIPS data, including an investigation of the merger fraction, and the fraction of starburst versus AGN, over the redshift range z = 0.3 to z = 1. Our COSMOS results are compared with similar studies of the population of LIRGs in the local universe.
