A theoretical analysis, based on the electrodynamic characteristics and the surface impedance of lunar soil, is applied to the propagation of radio waves in the 0.1-100 MHz range along the lunar surface. It is shown that the far field has an interferential character, due to propagation of waves through the soil, the character of field oscillations is uniquely determined by parameters of the upper rock layer. The vertical component of the electric field can thus be correlated to the thickness of this layer. At distances from the transmitter exceeding 20 lambda-0, the wave, propagating through the soil, is damped to such an extend that it can be neglected. In the far field, the effect of surface curvature is felt at significantly smaller distances than on the earth and it is of greater intensity.
