Scientific paper
On a cosmological background of radiation and matter the propagation of matter density perturbations is studied. The speed of sound is calculated before, during and after the recombination era. The model is that of matter-radiation as a hydrodynamical single fluid. The coupling strength of radiation to matter is taken into account by the ratio of the spatial perturbation scale to the mean free path of the photons via Thomson scattering. The speed of sound becomes scale dependent. The Jeans stability borders of the matter perturbations are calculated during and near the recombination epoch.
