The paper is concerned with the non-self-similar problem of a central explosion accompanied by the detonation of a homogeneous gravitating gas sphere. The problem is solved by using the asymptotic method of a thin shock layer proposed by Chernyi (1957) and involving a small parameter. The use of the small parameter makes it possible to describe the expansion of the main mass of the gas into vacuum.
