A method for projecting high-latitude measurements of the constant electric field to higher altitudes in the upper atmosphere is outlined. The method is based not on the total vector of the constant component, measured on Cosmos 484, but on its horizontal component; this is associated with the fact that the measurement of an electric field component normal to the magnetic field at high altitudes requires the presence of currents normal to the field lines. Some conclusions based on the projection of ionospheric measurements to higher altitudes are presented.
