Scientific paper

In June 1985, on the way down to the surface of Venus, the Vega-1 and Vega-2 landers each detached a balloon which floated near the 54-km level in the Venus atmosphere for about two days. Data were collected on the cloud particles and aerosol material, minor gaseous constituents on the planet's dark side, and the motion of air masses. A summary of the landers' and the balloons' instruments and the atmospheric parameters measured by these instruments is presented.
