It is necessity to study Delta-type sunspots because great flares almost always occur in this type of spot. Considerable progress has been achieved for about thirty years on the morphological and statistic analysis of Delta spots. This review paid attention to the forming, developing and decaying of Delta spots, and is attempted to understand and explain how and why nearly all great flares occur in Delta spots. Finally, some of the research notes on the theory and simulation for future are briefly discussed.
