We have seen the start of the most powerful and comprehensive search for extraterrestrial radio signals ever attempted. This NASA project is described, including the scientific rationale behind the specific details of the search, and the hardware and software approaches being utilized. Included is a description of the 15 million channel signal processors and unusually sophisticated signal detection systems utilized. The results of the first six months of searching are described. Some speculations about future SETI endeavors will be given, including thoughts about the use of the sun or a star as a gravitational lens to either search for or transmit strong interstellar signals.
