The paper describes the design and operation of an on-line operating system (PONI) for the reception and processing of scientific telemetry data from the Venera 13 and 14 probes. The operating system controls the reception of data from the source and records it on the magnetic tape in accordance with prescribed modes of operation; controls the overall resources modes of operation; controls the overall resources of the system, and synchronizes the reception, recording, and processing' sets task priority; and informs the user program about delays in the processing. Block diagrams describing system hardware, structure, and operation are presented. It is concluded that the use of PONI for the Venera 13 and 14 flights has made possible a reduction in the time required for the rapid processing of the telemetry data.
