A unified theory of star formation remains one of the unsolved issues in astrophysics. One of the diffculties is the lack of clear sequential signposts in identifying early stages of star formation. Recent study (Ellingsen et al., 2007) shows that different maser species trace different physical conditions and are thought to signpost different evolutionary phases of high mass star formation. While non-masing molecular transitions have also proved to be useful as signposts to the evolutionary stage of massive stars, and here we are proposing to investigate the chemistry of cores associated with known masers.
