PROBA (PROject for On-Board Autonomy), is an ESA project dedicated to in-orbit demonstration based on a small spacecraft platform and advanced on-board function to support autonomy. This paper will present the Avionics and Software architecture, the development and validation plan adopted. The satellite was launched in October 2001, the payload instruments data already provided have demonstrated the capability of the sophisticated Attitude Control Subsystem (ACNS) and associated Avionics.
