It is well known that systematic effects make the evaluation of absolute uncertainties in pressure broadening parameters difficult. In many cases, especially in the retrieval of remote sensing information, it is important that these uncertainties be well understood. In response, the pressure broadening of HNO3 by N2 and O2 has been studied in the millimeter-wave region by two different methods in two different laboratories. The focus of this work has been on the strong lines near 206 GHz which are used by the Microwave Limb Sounder for measurement of HNO3 in the Earth's atmosphere.
