This paper focuses on the assessment of radiation sensitivity to flow-field numerical predictions. For the imposed conditions of Workshop's Test Case 3, in terms of trajectory and mesh, several calculations have been undertaken to predict the flow field around the front shield of the capsule. Different thermochemical models and atmosphere compositions have been applied to the test case. Catalysis and thermal non-equilibrium have been accounted for in the numerical simulations. The influence of the thermochemical modelling on the flow-field and convective heat-flux predictions have been studied first. Then, radiation has been investigated for the different computed results. A large sensitivity of the radiative heat flux to the chemical model has been found. Accounting for a more realistic Mars atmospheric composition, in particular by introducing nitrogen, leads to a considerable increase of radiative fluxes.
