The paper presents measurements of the relative magnetic field changes obtained with the three-component ferroprobe magnetometers (measuring range positive to negative 60 gamma) aboard the Venera-9 spacecraft near the orbit pericenter, which was located on the night side at an altitude of about 1500 km. Typical magnetograms show three principal regions: (1) a region of calm field variations with a range of about 5 gamma, (2) a region of pronounced fluctuations in all components, the fluctuation maximum attaining 25 gamma with a width at the 0.7 level amounting to about 600 km, and (3) a region where the fluctuations die down, disappearing first in two components, and finally in the third. The measurements are in agreement with a previously determined upper limit for the magnetic moment of Venus (1/4000 that of the earth).
