Initial direct-drive absolute EOS measurements of Be on Nova will be presented. Additionally, we will discuss: (a) the design, details, and fabrication of a high-resolution 4.75 keV monochromatic one-dimensional (1D) x-ray microscope intended to improve the quality of simultaneous U_s, U_p, and ρ measurements in materials which may be x-ray transparent, partially transmitting, or even opaque to the sidelighting x-rays; (b) a novel method for the measurement of EOS sample preheat via the measurement of kbar-scale pressures - using piezoelectric transducers - induced by laser-generated high-energy x-rays penetrating the pusher and heating an EOS sample surface; (c) 1 & 2D radiation-hydrodynamic code investigations of required laser temporal pulse shapes, inherent hydro smoothing of the temporal pressure profile using thick pushers, preheat prevention of Au EOS samples using a two-stage shock-relay pusher technique consisting of two thick layers of separate high- (Au) and low-Z (Be) materials, etc.; (d) and the novel design of a sound speed experiment.
